Six years ago, our lives were changed forever when these two precious angels joined our family! They were SO much work, coming together, to be in our home, but all of the hard work has paid off. They are such an important part of our family now and we can't imagine life without them.
Here are some things we want to remember about our six-year-old Matthew Brandon:
* He never lets his mommy leave the house without a kiss!
* He loves to read while he cuddles with mom!
* He always chases a girl named Elena on the playground at school
* He loves Scooby Doo and Phineas and Ferb.
* His favorite food is pizza and he loves ice cream.
* He has learned to ride a dirt bike and has NO fear!
* He loves his teacher, Mrs. Zichichi.
* He sleeps with about 50 stuffed animals and loves each one.
* He is often found playing Minecraft and Candy Crush.
* He loves to bake brownies and lick out the bowl.
* He is NOT allergic to peanuts anymore!
* He has a powerful testimony of Jesus Christ. He knows that he will come again and can't wait to meet him!
Here are some things we always want to remember about six-year-old Micah Steven:
* He loves his mommy and always asks her to "cuddle him".
* He loves to make projects and create things out of paper.
* He always eats chocolat chip brownies for breakfast.
* He loves to play video games, especially "lego" games on the wii.
* He is an expert at playing the game, Clue.
* He always helps him mommy with chores on Saturday mornings.
* He loves to watch Scooby Doo and Phineas and Ferb.
* He always wants someone to come over and play.
* He loves to eat pudding and has since he was a baby.
* He loves his Grandmas and Grandpas.

True Spirit of Christ this Christmas
Merry Christmas! Today is always a magical day, but even more magical now that I have my own children to spoil! Watching the animated story of the birth of Christ, together on Christmas Eve has become a tradition of ours and is the perfect start to the special day. Of course, the following morning is followed by squeals of delight as my boys experience, not only the joy of receiving, but the pleasure that comes from giving. I can't help but always spend the day in tears as I watch them!
This year, even more tears have been shed than most! This year, Christmas would not have happened in our home with the selfless hours of service given to me by two of the most precious people I have in my life, my mom and my husband! Two amazing people who have kept me going and given me hope that I can keep putting one foot in front of the other as long as I simply take my life "one day at a time". People who remind me to rely on my faith in a loving Heavenly Father, who knows me and knows of my struggles.
For over a year now, I have known that something was wrong with me! I have seen three different doctors looking for answers, and because I already have SO many health conditions, it was easy for these doctors to assume these conditions were to blame for my current feelings that something was just not right! It wasn't until August when I really was frightened. As I started my first week back to work full time, my right foot went completely numb, followed by patches of numbness in the left foot. Again, I called yet a different doctor, who assured me this was ok and was a side effect of other medical problems and should go away in time.
Well, by October, I was really a mess. Not only were my feet still numb, but I was so tired that I could no longer do everything I was responsible to do. I would sleep at traffic lights, while grading papers, and during a conversation with my husband. I continuously cried, yes, everyday! Of course these new symptoms could be explained easily from the stressful start to my new job. I just assumed that I was trying to adjust and as I did, things would improve.
My mom started coming in to grade papers for me. She'd spend HOURS in my classroom grading everything she could. She'd also bring me lunch and make me laugh, convincing me that not only did she love me, but that I could do this and she'd help! She has her own life full of stressful problems, that always ended up on the back burner, while she helped me.
My husband, who is already sick and struggling to do all that he is responsible for, took over my responsibilities at home. He has done countless loads of laundry, gotten groceries, cleaned bathrooms, and helped with homework, all to help ease my responsibilities. He has spent countless nights with me in tears, telling me he loved me and would help me in any way that he could.
I again went back to my doctor who did some blood work finding that my B-12 levels were lower than she'd ever seen before. She ordered monthly injections and told me I should start to feel better. I didn't think a lot of it, but started the shots, as directed, not really seeing any change in my activity level, mood, or feet.
So, by Thanksgiving, my feet were so useless that I fell out of a bus during a bus evacuation drill with my 2nd graders. My feet would get so cold in the mornings that I spent the day in horrible pain. The fatigue worsened to where I was sleeping as I drove to and from work. I was scared and Bryan had had enough with my doctors.
Bryan started doing some research and discovered there were only two real explanations to the numbness in my feet, diabetes or a low B-12 level. Hmm... We looked further to discover that an auto-immune disorder, pernicious anemia, could be causing the low B-12 levels and all of my symptoms, and my grandmother has this disease which is hereditary. We were happy as we raced back to the doctor to get her opinion. She agreed with us, relieved, and ran the blood work for a confirmed diagnosis.
We were sad to realize, a few days later, that the test was negative. At this point, the doctor gave up saying, it's not pernicious anemia, so just increase your B-12 shots to every two weeks and call me if you need anything. When I replied that I still did need something, my feet were still numb, she seemed frustrated, but suggested that maybe I should see a neurologist.
The neurologist was much more concerned than my regular doctor, especially when she ran more blood work and discovered that even though I was getting B-12 injections, they weren't really helping. Within a week, my levels were back in dangerous levels causing more damage to my feet. Low B-12 levels were causing severe neurological problems for me, including nerve damage, but she couldn't explain why and kept commenting that she'd never seen B-12 levels SO low before. She bumped up my shots to once a week and referred me to a gastro doctor, guessing that the problem must be related to my absorption of B-12 which happens in the stomach. While I wait for that appointment, she has ordered an MRI of my brain to be certain she hasn't missed something more dangerous.
So, one week before Christmas, I was still NO better and had many things that I needed to do as a teacher, wife, and mother. Again, my mom jumped in taking over all of my food assignments for family parties, wrapped and organized my students gifts, and made the jelly I gave to my neighbors. Bryan bought and wrapped most of the gifts for our families and our boys, and took days off work when my boys had strep throat!
I'm being completely honest when I say that they saved our Christmas!! Their service and love is something I cherish in my life! They are two of the most unconditional, Christ-like people that I know! So, as we celebrate the birth of Christ, on this Christmas morning, my heart is full of fear, but also extreme gratitude! There are many people who have helped along this past 6 difficult months, including the other teachers at my school, an understanding principal, and the loving women who serve with me in my Young Women calling at church! They do not go unnoticed! Many people have shown the true love of Christ to me! Again, as I type, I am brought to tears!!
As you start the year 2013, please remember my family in your prayers! And pass along the true spirit of Christ this season!

First Day in Primary
Today was the boys first day in Primary! They were super excited and got all dressed up. Don't they look just adorable!
They were so brave and didn't even cry. Matthew had a harder time than Micah did, which was very surprising, but they both made it for both hours. Let's hope it goes as well next time.

Gila Valley Temple
What an amazing experience we had today!! We went with my parents to the open house of the Gila Valley Temple. I had wanted to go, but just didn't seem to find a weekend that worked into our schedule. Finally, I decided to go without Bryan, during the week. I just didn't want to miss this amazing opportunity!!
We left late morning and drove the couple of hours it took to get there. We ate some lunch at McDonalds and let the kids run around for a bit. After the long drive, they needed it. They were going to have to be quiet during the tour of the temple, so we wanted them to be ready. After lunch, we headed to the temple.
It was amazing to watch my little boys enter the temple and immediately recognize the spirit that they felt there. They were quiet and walked slowly as they showed us from room to room. Then, as we left the building, Matthew said,"Mom, that place made me feel good!" It was so sweet and made the whole trip worthwhile!

Trip to Cold Stone
Dalin loves Cold Stone and we just don't get down there very often. Today, he found some coupons we had gotten last week and begged to get some ice cream. Since school is out for the holiday break and it was family night, after all, we made a trip.

Homemade Go-Cart from Daddy
Last year, we were at the park, when a teenage boy drove up on a go-kart. Dalin was so impressed and was bound and determined that day that one day, he would have a go-kart, too. It was pretty amazing and he was pretty excited to go home and tell Bryan all about it.
Well, here we are one year later driving around the neighborhood in our very own go-kart. Is my husband amazing, or what?? And my kids are super lucky to have him as their daddy. The plans for this were ordered online, but it was built from scratch by Bryan. Pretty cool!

The go-kart is really too powerful and too big for the twins, it was designed for Dalin. However, the twins are happy still, since they have inherited Dalin's quad.
I see many more days in this park watching the boys drive all around with big smiles on their faces.

The Bunny is in Big Trouble
Our sweet bunny has been such an easy pet. He's quiet and cuddly and doesn't make much of a mess either. We all love him!!

But today, that sweet, little bunny got himself in big trouble! He loves to eat the petunias that I recently planted in the backyard. I've been feeding him more often, so he isn't hungry, but it isn't really helping. He just loves the flowers!! Today, he dug up most of the flowers after snacking on them all afternoon. Then, as if that wasn't bad enough, he chewed through all of the drip lines in the flower bed, too.
Bryan got home to find water spraying everywhere!! He was not happy and called me to say that the bunny was in trouble!!!
So, we had to create a solution! I had to replant the few flowers that were left and we had to cage in the flower bed. Now, he can't get the the actual plants or drip lines. And hopefully, the flowers will grow through the chicken wire. Keep your fingers crossed this works, so that Bryan doesn't feed us "bunny stew" in the very near future.

Geocaching with the Boys
We officially have a new hobby! My boys are loving to go geocaching, which is a fancy way of treasure hunting. You use GPS coordinates to locate "treasures" hidden everywhere, all around you, in deserts, parking lots, and store fronts. It really is fun to look and look and then finally find the treasure.
Some are hidden in little plastic vials. Some are in plastic jugs or magnetized to fences. They are everywhere and clues are listed online to help you out along your way. There are only two times that we didn't find the treasure, but I'm sure that there will be others. The coolest one we ever found is pictured below. We happened to be with his buddy, Carson, that day. This one was hidden in a concrete box with a sneaky key to get in. It was amazing!!

This one was pretty cool, too, hidden in a stick.
Even the twins love it! But what's not to love about tromping through the desert when you are a three-year-old boy.
This is one of the treasures we didn't find. It was so disappointing!
But Dalin did find an egg, that's got to count for something, right??
